Major Poker Tournaments
The poker world is full of live tournaments that take place around the world on a regular basis but there is only a handful that really captures the community’s imagination. By far the most popular live event is the World Series of Poker. Taking place once a year in Las Vegas, the event stretches over the course of nearly two months and encapsulates the full range of poker games.
At the end of each tournament is a pile of money and a coveted WSOP bracelet. These bracelets have become iconic and a symbol of achievement in poker. In addition to the WSOP, the World Poker Tour has also become one of the major poker series in the world.
Million dollar prizepools and the best players in the world have not only made it a must attend event for the poker world’s elite but compulsive viewing for anyone interested in the game.
Completing the trio of major poker tournament series is the European Poker Tour. Backed by PokerStars, the EPT takes place in some of Europe’s most prestigious and luxuries locations including Monte Carlo and London.
Winning all three titles is known as the Triple Crown and something that’s only ever achieved by a handful of players. Gavin Griffin was the first player to win the title and he was closely followed by Roland de Wolfe. The final player is Jake Cody who won the accolade after winning the $25,000 heads-up title at the 2011 WSOP. For those who maybe want to get a bit of practise in before entering a major tournament, there is always the option to play poker online for free.
